Loving this. Really like the approach Bill takes to introduce new players to a TTRPG. Don't explain every single rule, just enough to get them started. Gotta say, in every group there's always one who stacks the dice!

I feel like that's a dm mistake. Those are the situations where you call for a bathroom break to give you some time to solve their answers Idk what the solution was in this case tbh but I'm sure there was some cool boss fight where they get dragged out of the physical world and into the spirit world while they fight the priest for the lady's soul and the demon is trying to climb up through the partially opened portal. Something like that. You can even do "we'll pick up next week" and then give yourself some time to figure out what happens by saying something ominous and leaving the session on a cliffhanger.

Is there a way to play CnC solo? Unfortunately, my friends are not interested in TTRPGs and my playgroup mostly play DnD 5e. I read something about Siege but not sure how that works. Thanks!

Hell yeah. Fully agreed. I haven't tried Castles and Crusades, but I trust your judgment. I'm planning on running some mini-campaigns after I finish my current Pathfinder 2e campaign (love that system, sooo much better than what WotC puts out). Could be a great time to try Castles and Crusades as well.

Good insights about the role a GM can fulfill as a teacher. I think people can overemphasize the adversarial role between GM and Player as a negative one. Challenging your players can be many things. Throwing them in the proverbial deep end can be both the path to teaching them to swim and watching them drown.

Omg been trying to fill a gap in my campaign how this creature will work In game. Early campaign they got a prophecy: to repair the world you must challenge 6 monsters outside your abilities. They have killed 4 with npc help or pets. They know they need a blade. They have an idea this creature or another has it. So I'm watching how to run the creature... Side note the players god/deity/fathers is marvels Loki. Yes he fills all 3 roles for the whole party for one all 3. They have sheath, one players parents had It in their treasury. So the background for the morokoth is perfect. Grandad Odin believes he has seen the blade before. And send them to clean up one of his messes. Currently going through an encounter where my group ran into a group who has a flesh golem in their control. We talked to the leader of the group and found out that the flesh golem only follows her because she looks like it's previous master. The mouth piece of our group negotiated for that group to be a "merchant" for us. I ended up getting an idea for taking control of the flesh golem during all that. So when the potential merchant went into their quarters, me being a changeling, I transformed into the lady that had control of the golem. I used it to attack her underlings with one more ally. The other two went after the fleah golems temporary master. It has resulted in a shouting match between the leader and me over who the golem listens too. I cleared the room with the underlings in it. I'm trying to get the golem out of range of the leader's shouting.

I’m using this as a BBEG that has a secret order that collects items for it. It lives on a domed island under a gulf that’s vital for trade. And sends minions to ransack ships and collect rare items.

A late viewer, but looking at the 5e Players' Handbook, they never mention that Elves have pointed ears. Although these are not Tolkien elves (they are shorter than humans, for example), Tolkien never described Elves as having pointed ears (even though his descriptions of everything else is quite detailed) and characters who identify other characters as Elves base their inference on the light in the character's eyes, perhaps height and 'fairness'. Never assume anything (like the Monk comment someone made)…

Matt is striking me as a problem player and probably needs to acknowledge that there are more people at the table everyone stops and waits for his turn but I can see him never stopping waiting and listening to other peoples tones. Hopefully he gets better at this as the game goes on this could be just first game. Jitters is what I’m hoping anyway.

Cloud giants are absolutely my favorite giant, im actually making a video of my own reworking the entire statblock into a fitting, lore friendly cloud giant thats representitive of their wealth. I had a cloud giant prince named Celestius, who saved the party from the cloud giant sentinels who rode in on massive golden chariots (they protect their sky cities from intruders) Celestius in turn made the players become his serfs and fight for him in a gladatorial arena where other cloud giant nobility gather up creatures from around the world an have them fight to see who has the best beast. And he loaned the players his great grandfathers vorpal scythe to show the immense wealth he had.

Thanks for a doing a video on these. They have intrigued me since I first saw them. I was always unsure how to use them though. You have given me some ideas and clarity! Thanks!
